a new stray dog rpg
In the beginning, few knew what to make of the growing events. Humans had always fought amongst themselves. Since the dawn of their reign, war and violence had been commonplace. The canines of the world learned to live with it, and in some cases, thrive from it. Humans found great use in the dogs. They prized them as hunters, companions, security, and sport. Different breeds were bred down for specific traits, distinguishing one dog from the next. Though very different from what they once were, the dogs still understood what they were. There was an unspoken unity that held them together. Through thick and thin, they would survive. Whether it be the very humans that had so revered them, turning against them in a dark hour, or Mother Earth herself, they would come together and face the odds head on.[/blockquote]
Even as the mighty shadow of the human race began to fade, the strength and vast numbers of dogs kept strong. When the humans released the bombs, those that destroyed all in their path, they took what they could and went underground. Their world was destroyed. They brought about the doom of everything they had known since birth. Monuments, buildings, innocent lives; all gone. One of the few things they did spare were the creatures they had found so much use and comfort in. Though others were also taken down under the Earth, dogs of all sorts adapted the best. They proved hardy and resilient, just as they had been for centuries. Even when the pestilence that had left the top ground poisonous began to seep into the new civilization the humans had created, the dogs carried on. Though many of them perished as well, those who did survive promoted the coming about of a new era.
By the time the last band of humans had died, the dogs had already bred a new population of canines who were resistant to this sickness. They were stronger, faster, more intelligent, and very obviously changed by the bombs after effects. Yet these advantages did not come without consequences. Many mothers would find their pups upon birth to be disfigured and sickly. Frightening mutations, both beneficial and detrimental arose on a regular basis. Rarely was one born untouched by the sour earth.
But as their resistance grew, their surroundings in the underground world shrank. The population had grown too fast and too large. Food and clean water were scarcer than ever. Some resorted to violence, while others sought escape by returning to the ground above. Before long, the majority of the population had moved to the world above, were they faced that many more problems. Food and water were more plentiful, yet one had to be wary of a poison that may lay beneath it. Space was there to be taken, if one was willing to fight for it. Faced with a dire situation, the dogs did what they had done since the beginning of time; they united as a force.
However, the toxins had altered them. Far more than any had expected. Instead of coming together as one pack, factions formed. Smaller packs fought viciously with one another, and blood feuds quickly erupted. This is how the world which you see before you came to be. The violence, the pain, the suffering, and the wishes for peace; all felt by every beating heart.
